Franklin Mint / 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet / FM Discontinued / 1:24th Scale
Guard's Red
When you think about it, Porsche has gotten decades of mileage from the air-cooled, horizontally opposed engine. From the first VW inspired models, to the sleek, high-performance cars of the '80s and '90s, Porsche has stood for speed and handling, with a racing pedigree to prove its prowess.
Release from FM in 1998, this model features the basics of diecast model making in 1998-the doors, hood and rear deck open and the front wheels steer. Fit is good, as is the level of engine detailing. It comes in the top-down mode only. The model looks sharp, with a nicely applied glossy red finish but compared to today's offerings from Danbury and GMP, it doesn't measure up. But for serious collectors it doesn't matter. FM stopped producing it in 2001 and they're getting harder to find. This one won't last long.
