Minichamps dist. by Danbury Mint / 1969 Vietnam M48-A3 Patton Tank / 1:35th Scale
Olive Drab
1:35th Scale, manufactured by Minichamps, Distributed by Danbury Mint
The first versions of the M48 battle tank entered service during the Korean War in the mid 1950's. Due to many initial production problems, the major fault was the V12 petrol engine which allowed the M48 a range of only 70 miles, the tank was upgraded through several steps.
The widely improved A2 model quickly replaced the first series and was sold to more than 19 Allies. Germany received more than 650 units which were modified to the A2GA2 by the end of the 1970's.
In 1963 the M48 A3 was produced with a diesel engine (that increased the range to 309 miles) and numerous further improvements and saw first action in the Vietnam conflict successfully. Finally, the M48 family became the backbone of the NATO tank units for more than 20 years.
