The "Tiger" battle tank that first appeared in numbers on European battlefields by the end of 1942 is the most widely known German tank of WWII.

Despite coming into service unproven and thus affected by numerous teething problems, it turned out to be superior to its opponents due to its better arming and strong armor. Its heavy weight, however, made it not very suitable for heavy terrain and its extremely high fuel consumption limited the operational range of the "Tiger".
