Carousel / 1975 All American Racers #48 Jorgensen Eagle - Bobby Unser- Indy 500 Winner / Discontinued / 1:18th scale
Light Blue
For the 1975 Indianapolis 500®, Bobby Unser stayed with Dan Gurney's All American Racers, chief mechanic Wayne Leary, and an Eagle chassis built in 1974. Bobby Unser qualified on the outside of the front row with a speed of 191.073 mph. At the start of the race, Gordon Johncock took the point from A.J. Foyt and Bobby Unser, before Foyt passed him on the ninth lap. Johncock went out on Lap 11 with a broken gear. Rutherford and Wally Dallenbach joined Foyt and Bobby Unser in the lead pack, which began pulling away from the rest of the field. Bobby Unser was racing patiently, conserving fuel and keeping close to the leaders. Bobby Unser took the lead for the first time on Lap 124, but he soon relinquished it to pit. Dallenbach led most of the way from the 59th to the 161st lap, but he retired on Lap 162 with a blown piston. Then Rutherford led, until he pitted on Lap 165, and Bobby Unser ran in first for only the second time in the race. Dark thunderclouds suddenly appeared out of the southwest, and a sprinkle began on Lap 173, turning into a downpour a lap later. Several cars wrecked on the wet track, but Bobby Unser kept his Eagle straight, and the red and checkered flags were displayed after he had completed Lap 174.
Bobby Unser won the 1975 Indianapolis 500® with an average speed of 149.213 mph, ahead of Rutherford and Foyt, the only two other drivers on the lead lap, with the rest of the field at least five laps behind.
